Amorite America: Iniquity and Judgment

 Those with a superficial understanding of Scripture often accuse God of being cruel and intolerant for ordering Israel to destroy the inhabitants of the Promised Land. While at first glance this criticism may appear to be justified, a deeper study reveals Almighty God as a merciful, all-powerful, all-knowing Lord who above all else loved Israel (Deut. 7:7-8) and wanted to protect her from the encroaching influence of the evil Amorites (aka the Canaanites) whose heinous lifestyles had defiled the land (Lev. 18:27).

God, Sovereign Creator of all (Gen. 1:1), made a covenant with Abram that included title deed to the land of Canaan (Gen. 12:1, 7; 13:15; 15:7; 13, 18, etc). However, God told him before his family could receive their inheritance they would need to reside 400 years in a foreign land (Gen. 15:13) because the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full (Gen. 15:16).

The Abominations of the Amorites

And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel (1 Kings 14:24) . . . And wilt dash their children, and rip up their women with child (2 Kings 8:12) . . . But (Ahaz, King of Judah) . . . made his son to pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the heathen (2 Kings 16:3; see Lev. 18:21).

On baked clay tablets at Ras Shamra in Syria, [1] two Amorite abominations are pictured desecrating the human body: abortion and homosexuality. While much could be said about either of these despicable sins, both are proud, defiant acts of rebellion against God’s first recorded commandment: God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth . . . (Genesis 1:28).

Abortion is an affront to God’s person in that it destroys the life of innocent babies created in His own image (Gen. 1:26; 5:1). Canaanite law (Lev. 18:3) protected parent’s “rights” by allowing them to sacrifice their children to their gods- in exchange for material favor. [2] Archaeologists have unearthed hundreds of jars (some in the foundations of Canaanite houses) containing the pathetically distorted remains of young children who apparently struggled for life while being suffocated, burned, or buried alive as offerings to Canaanite deities. Before we recoil in smug self righteousness we need to ask ourselves how the Amorite practice of sacrificing innocent children to their cult gods differs one iota in God’s eyes from the way babies are being sacrificed to the cult gods of materialism and choice today?[3]

The second discovery depicted on the tablets showed the Amorites worshipping grossly perverted gods and goddesses through homosexuality and bestiality (Lev. 18:22-23). Although God warned that Israel’s failure to destroy these vile perverts would prove to be her spiritual unraveling, they chose rather to disobey and adopt the perversions and ultimately suffer the consequences: But if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you; then it shall come to pass, that those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall vex you in the land wherein ye dwell. Moreover it shall come to pass, that I shall do unto you, as I thought to do unto them (Numbers 33:55-56).

The Abominations of America

I  tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish (Luke 13:3). The Bible reveals a world steeped in the darkness of sin (Eph. 5:8). As God sheds light (knowledge and insight- see John 8:12) on spiritual matters (1 Cor. 2:14-15), He does so expecting that we’ll respond according to the dictates of His Word (Psa. 119:9, 11). Rejecting His light suppresses truth and fosters filth (Rom. 1:18). The Amorites, to which we are comparing ourselves, didn’t believe in Almighty God or follow His Word. They lived according to feelings garnered by every imagination and thought of their heart that as in Noah’s day was only evil continually (Gen. 6:5). America on the other hand, was founded upon Biblical principles including the sanctity of life (Ex. 21:22-24; Psalm 139) and traditional marriage represented by one man and one woman for one lifetime (Gen. 2:22-24). Now, both of these have been deftly destroyed by God hating liberals who choose filth over faith, and rights over righteousness. As a result, America, once vibrantly Christian, has now become the universal habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird (Rev. 18:2).

In his stern warning from Set The Trumpet to Thy Mouth brother David Wilkerson argues that the same Christian America God chose and blessed will ultimately become the proud unrepentant Babylon [4] He must finally destroy:

“I believe modern Babylon is present-day America, including its corrupt society and its whorish church system. No other nation fits the description of Revelation 18 . . . America is going to be destroyed by fire! Sudden destruction is coming and few will escape. Unexpectedly, in one hour, a hydrogen holocaust will engulf America – and this nation will be no more. GOD is going to judge America for its violence, its crimes, its backslidings, its murdering of millions of babies, its flaunting of homosexuality . . . corruption, its drunkenness and drug abuse, its form of GODliness without power, its lukewarmness toward Christ . . . Judgment is at the door! Our days are numbered! The church is asleep, the congregations are at ease, and the shepherds slumber. How they will scoff and laugh at this message. Theologians will reject it . . . Pillow prophets of peace and prosperity will publicly denounce it . . . I am blowing the Lord’s trumpet with all my might . . . Perhaps only the overcomers will accept and hear the sound of this trumpet blast, but I proceed with these warnings because GOD called me to be a watchman.”

So, how did we get here? History, if we’re brave enough to look, reveals a majority of Christians saying nothing while Canaanites pirated education, entertainment, media, politics, and a shocking number of our churches. This silence hasn’t improved much. Instead of expelling them as God commanded Israel, or evangelizing them as mandated by Christ (Matt. 28:19-20), we’ve opted to tolerate them, understand them, and elect them into office where they are now glibly enacting politically correct laws forbidding us to oppose or expose them. [5] In short, seducing spirits speaking lies (1 Tim. 4:1-2) have turned Christians into Canaanites with hardly a shot being fired. Paul explains the process:

Because that, when they knew God (proves there is no such thing as an atheist, see Ecc. 3:11; Rom. 1:20), they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened (pride leads to spiritual deception). Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools (see Psa. 14:1; 53:1), And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image (idolatry) made like to corruptible man (Narcissism), and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things (Darwinism). Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts (see Gen. 6:5), to dishonour their own bodies between themselves (hedonism): Who changed the truth of God into a lie (relativism), and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator (pantheism and the “green” obsession), who is blessed for ever. Amen. For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature (lesbianism): And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly (sodomy/homosexuality), and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet (AIDS and other communicable diseases [6]). And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient (this is the summary statement of the above) . . . Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them (pernicious perverted politicians) (excerpted from Romans 1:21-32).

God’s Judgment on a Defiled Land

God never changes His mind or alters His Word (Mal. 3:6; Psalm 119:89). Homosexuality and abortion have always defiled a nation and prepared it for judgment. Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination . . . Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants . . . For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled . . . Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. And I will set my face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile my sanctuary, and to profane my holy name. And if the people of the land do any ways hide their eyes from the man, when he giveth of his seed unto Molech, and kill him not: Then I will set my face against that man, and against his family, and will cut him off (excerpted from Leviticus 18:22-27; 20:2-5).

Since God won’t change, we must! May God grant us repentance before we are dealt with as our iniquity rightly deserves.

[4] I’m not dogmatic that America is Babylon. However, I believe we could be one of the daughters of Babylon (Zech. 2:7-9). If so then we will no doubt fulfill secondary prophecies describing the Mother of Harlots (Rev. 17:5).

[5] Study the “Fairness Doctrine” my friend. This will keep Christians legally muzzled in lieu of incarceration.

[6] All these are preventable through repentance and abstinence for which their advocates loathe suggesting.
